Mile 007 - Freedom of the Soul

For many of us running is a way of achieving freedom, there is the lure of the open road and beautiful countryside. We need these breaks for Freedom of the Soul
Join me on Mile 007 of the “a mile with me” podcast, as we explore this freedom in more detail and look at the pleasures of running in English pastoral style countryside, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Its May Day here in the UK, which is both the celebration of labour rights and also of traditional festivals of Spring, including Beltane which gave us the May Poles! Find out what a May Pole is and join me as we visit a “new age” style retreat for May Day weekend.
The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (www.cpre.org.uk) has for over 80 years been supporting the English countryside. This site has details of the “Quiet Conference” which is mentioned in the podcast. We have an interview with Christopher Napier, Vice Chairman of the CPRE about the work they are doing to protect the countryside.
We also look at the origins of Central Park in New York City which has a direct connection to the English landscape - find out how and why on the “a mile with me” podcast. (www.centralparknyc.org ). I speak with Sarah-Cedar Miller, the historian of the Central Park in New York City about the history of the park which is 150 years old this week. We also find out how runners in NYC can support the park and gain a free place in the NYC Marathon and Half Marathon this year.
The countryside gives us Freedom for our Soul … stop and think for a moment about it on your next run.
